Exhibition Proposal
Exhibition Proposal
Pitch:
I would like to present a mock-up dining room at the exhibition, painted in a mat white with lights switching from normal bulbs to Ultraviolet bulbs to show the UV writing and illustrations that will be on the table cloth, plates, glasses, cutlery and photos. I would like the room to be like a squashed octagon, with two sides clear for people to walk through.

Placement
For the exhibition, I think my work would be best suited in the space against the flat wall at the back of the exhibition space near the fire exit. Here I could use the pre-existing wall which reduces the cost of material to make my own, leaving more money for the others to use for their pieces. This would also cut down on health and safety risks as there would only be one wall to make secure which reduces risks when setting up the exhibit and during the show. This space was also near the single plug socket in the exhibition space and as such would reduce the risk of running wires all over the room as I will need electricity to power the Ultraviolet lights. This wall is also quite dark, though not in a way that is dangerous, as other parts of the building blocks a lot of the light, this would make the Ultraviolet lighting of my piece vibrant and would show my work to the best quality.
Though my piece could go in the centre of the space, it increases health and safety risks considerably, there would be more wires, more walls and so on. This also increases the price of my piece. And, because I’m working on a large scale, being central may distract from other pieces in the show whereas being towards the side wouldn’t so much. I also feel because the walls of my piece are so tall, at 8”, that a central position may block the light for other people’s work which I wouldn’t want to do.
However, a central position would have the benefit of more space allowing me to fully explore shaping of my piece. Lighting would be tricky but I think the 8” walls would block enough of the light that it is dark enough for my piece. As long as my piece was towards the back, the lighting should be fine. It’s just the health and safety risks of being a distance away from the power socket and the walls falling. There’s also the risk of blocking the light for other people.
