Experimentation: Ultraviolet Drawings, Grandad
After my own critique of the first drawing of my mum, I decided to try a simpler style that uses only line. The shading and texture was hard to capture skilfully on the fabric with these pens so a more minimal style will hopefully work better. I started drawing out the initial picture I had chosen of my Grandad with simple lines. The fabric I used for this experiment is a lot smaller than the fabric I had used previously and so the image had to be projected smaller which lost some of the details and really helped me create this minimal style. Though in the first image of my Grandad it makes him look angry rather than cheeky as he did in the image initially.
I then chose a picture of my Grandad when he was older to establish a sense of change. As an outcome I may display them above each other as a kind of before and after, or I could drawn over the image and try layering - I'll need to experiment to find out what works. I liked drawing the second image, particularly the glasses as they probably were my Grandad's most significant feature (other than his beard). I didn't want to draw all of the glass so I only drew a little bit of the bottom, I think it works quite nicely. What didn't work quite as well was my Grandad's beard, moustache combo and I definitely need practice on that. I've really enjoyed creating these drawings and I want to carry it on into my outcome.
