Experimentation: Photographs

I looked back at my second questionnaire on family associations and found photographs kept reoccurring. I didn't initially think about it because my own family isn't that sentimental, but now I look at it, it seems an obvious path. Photographs keep a documentary of past family members so accesses generations rather than those here and now. I'm going to look for our own old photos and see if I can reprint and draw or write on them in the ultraviolet pen. Until then, I used photos I already had on my family. There's a picture of myself and my cousins that I wrote on in the UV pen descriptive words, the words were actually quite negative which surprised me because I do love my cousins and think they're great people.

I like the effect however, it only works on light coloured backgrounds so finding photos suitable may be hard and I'll probably arrange a shoot with my own family. I wanted my table to seat four as my first surveys showed that this was the average number in a family, I'm going to aim for the plates to be about like the 'traditional' members of a family and the table cloth be about extended family. To accompany this, I could have four portraits of people within the 'family' I've set up with writing over the top. Alternatively I could draw over the photos or draw them on fabric or paper to have up as people have photos up around the home. I think this might work and add an additional layer to the piece that I hadn't thought of before.
