Experimentation: Tablecloth And Clear Primer
I spent Thursday priming a tablecloth with a clear gesso, which took a lot more primer than I initially expected. The fabric still had the stiff feel I didn't particularly want, but it didn't looked caked in paint as the white gesso did so I was hopeful it would work and would still be as vibrant as the white.
Unfortunately it wasn't. The UV pen fades into the fabric and becomes almost illegible and as if I hadn't put any primer on at all which is very disappointing. I think the white gesso adds a canvas-like surface that blocks the light travelling through the fabric and as a result, makes the ultraviolet pen really bright. Either way, it is a lot better than the clear gesso so I'll use this in my outcome instead.
